This course provides a forum for the integration of knowledge and principles presented in every component of the program. Through lectures and problem-based learning methods, the course offers the student the opportunity to explore clinically relevant concepts and topics, focusing on integration of knowledge, skill, and research to enhance their understanding of the core concepts relevant to the practice of naturopathic medicine. The course will offer opportunities for students to acquire new information, become familiar with available resources for case analysis, and integrate medical sciences and naturopathic modalities and therapeutics in a way that will ultimately enhance their skills as primary care providers. A problem-based approach will allow the students the opportunity to work through complex problems, applying their knowledge and skills, with the aim to analyze a clinical case and develop therapeutic strategies and treatment plans. The instructor will support the group both by acting as a resource and by serving as an unobtrusive educational coach to guide students in reasoning their way through the problem. Learning is promoted through facilitating students' access to their own prior knowledge, articulation of this knowledge as it relates to the problem, and identification of the limitations of their knowledge. The facilitator also engages students in reflection on process and provides feedback and evaluation. |
