Immunotherapy has changed the treatment landscape of many cancers, both in early and later stages, and has become first-line treatment in some cases. Immunotherapy has dramatically changed the prognosis of some cancers for which previous treatments were limited in their duration of effectiveness. These novel agents act very differently from traditional chemotherapy and other targeted cancer therapies.In this webinar, medical oncologist, Shaqil Kassam, MD MSc. This Rapid Reviews webinar is based on contemporary research, evidence, traditional knowledge and the extensive training and experience of naturopathic doctors (NDs) in pharmacology, herbal medicine and clinical nutrition.There is reason to believe that naturopathic approaches warrant consideration among the span of possible aids to the global response to COVID-19. Hence, the naturopathic profession undertook the task of conducting rapid reviews to assess the role of specific recommendations in the prevention or treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) inclusive of, but not limited to, COVID-19. The goal of a presenter is to deepen the participants’ understanding of the complex nature of conditions such as anxiety, bipolar conditions and depression. The course explores mental illness through the lenses of trauma, psychoneuroimmunology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and patient-centered naturopathic management. The speaker’s philosophy puts importance on embodying the healing message we wish to send to patients, and therefore this course focuses on personal practices that encourage participants to explore their own mental health in addition to learning to care for others. This experiential webinar will explore concepts of decolonization (eg. in healthcare, education, economy, justice, etc.) as a critical approach to the Symbiocene. It will build alignment between principles for planetary health and naturopathic medicine, and highlight roles, methods and models by which naturopathic doctors can engage in promoting health and preventing disease from this framework.This is an applied course; participants should be prepared to actively engage with the material. Core academic concepts and frameworks will be presented and critiqued, then participants will work with the content and co-participants in order to develop skills to collectively propel toward planetary health through the lens of naturopathic practice.
